Youth Ministry

Building community to serve the community

“God’s purpose in history is to glorify Himself through forging a new humanity, a community of people that follow and believe in Him…He has called us to be a new society so that the world can see exhibited what everything in life could be under the kingship and lordship of Jesus Christ.” Tim Keller, The Gospel in Life
God has not just given us a message, He has called us to be the message.

"Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity." 1 Timothy 4:12

YOUTH GROUP - (Sunday Evenings for Grades 6 – 12)

We meet on Sunday evenings from 6 – 8pm in our Youth Room – located upstairs above the gym in the Middle School building. We begin with some fun and fellowship, and finish with a worship and weekly lesson.
EVENTS: We enjoy periodic “fun events.” As we approach the summer months, it may be a pool party, cookout, a night of movies, bowling, or laser tag. In the fall, we enjoyed a trip to Richardson Farm’s corn maze, a hayride, and picked some apples and pumpkins. This winter, we also enjoyed a fun Super Bowl party!

SUNDAY MORNINGS
Middle and High School students meet Sunday mornings from 9 – 10am. We enjoy a time of fellowship and learning each week. In the past year, we have studied Why We Believe What We Believe – the Foundations of our Faith; enjoyed a study involving a comparison to a major world religion; and followed up with How to Defend our Faith.

MINISTRY

In the last year, our youth have served dinner to our Women’s Ministry Banquet; we served dinner to the Moody Bible Institute orchestra; we have participated in delivering Christmas gifts to families in need in Elgin; and have just begun to work with a local civic group that serves the needs of many inner city children in Elgin (pictured right, delivering hams for Easter). We help with their after school program - tutoring and organizing games; and are looking to join them in a monthly work project to help improve their facilities.

OUR MINISTRY DESIRE ...

Is to Minister to our Youth

  • In their heads (what God’s word teaches us)
  • In their hearts (moving from our head to our chest – the story of the Gospel)
  • Teach them how to build community to serve the community (how the above should lead us to minister with our hands)

PARENTS
We take the calling of ministering to young people very seriously. As parents, your job can be very challenging, and we are grateful for the opportunity to support you and pray for you and your child. In the past few years, multiple studies have revealed that many young people - as they enter and leave college - choose to leave the church. There is something very foundational that these young people have missed about the Gospel. Friends, only the transforming power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in your child’s life will make a lasting change, but we are excited that God has called us to be instruments to assist you in impacting your child’s life for the Kingdom.
