 Westminster Presbyterian Church Leadership

Leadership for our church is provided by our Session and our Diaconate.  These men are nominated and elected by the membership of our church and serve three-year terms. The Biblical model of leadership is probably best characterized in the phrase "servant leader," for even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. (Matthew 20:28)

The Session consists of our teaching elder (pastor) and ruling elders.  They are entrusted with responsibility for the government and spiritual oversight of the church. The qualifications and motivations for the office are described in 1 Peter 5:2-3, Titus 1:6-9, and also, 1 Timothy 3:1-7 which says:

The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, and able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.  He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God's church? He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil.

Current Session:

Pastor:  David Williams

Ruling Elders:  Rick Hess (2014), Rich Nay (2014), Bryan Hoon (2012), Paul Stoll (2014), and Brian Williamson (2013)

Deacons, likewise, are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons. In the same way, their wives are to be women worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything. A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well. Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus."  1 Timothy 3:8-13

Our Deacons are charged with the responsibility to assist in the physical needs of both members and non-members in a manner which reflects our Lord’s concern for their lives, so that they may better focus on their spiritual needs and welfare.
